The concept of linguistic variation, clearly related to the traditional concepts of synonymy and polysemy, has been one of the most interesting ones for linguistics recently. We believe, according to the revision we have carried out through lexicography and linguistics history, which had not been done up to now, that variation is just as heterogeneous as important to us. In this research we analyze some lexical variants in Spanish and try to prove the utility of a sociolinguistic methodology in the semantic description of linguistic units.
