Estrategias teatrales frente a la invasión francesa (1808-1814). El teatro patriótico durante la Guerra de la Independencia

Abstract

La autora traza en este trabajo una visión panorámica de las distintas estrategias con las que el teatro defendió la causa española frente a la invasión francesa, entre 1808 y 1814. Entre ellas se cuentan tanto la adaptación a las nuevas circunstancias de obras del antiguo teatro español como la creación de una nueva dramaturgia de propaganda patriótica, bien de carácter alegórico, bien de sucesos de día, que recorre de principio a fin los años de la contienda. Una creación dramática, protagonizada por los personajes del momento, que sacrifica la calidad literaria a la eficacia del mensaje, y que en la última etapa del conflicto, a partir de las Cortes de Cádiz, adquiere de forma creciente tintes políticos, sin que por ello desaparezca el mensaje patriótico que da unidad a toda esta creación dramática.

In the present work, the author exposes a comprehensive vision of the diverse strategies that drama used to defend the Spanish cause facing the French invasion, between 1808 and 1814. Among these strategies, the recovery of plays from old Spanish drama (adapted to the new circumstances) and the creation of a new drama of patriotic propaganda (be it allegorical or about daily events) are included in a period that runs from the beginning to the end of the years that covered the war. It is a dramatic creation that sacrifices the literary quality in favor of the efficiency of the message, led by the corresponding contemporary figures, and that increasingly acquires a political tinge in the last stage of the conflict (after the Cádiz Cortes), although this fact does not make the patriotic message that unifies this whole dramatic creation disappear.
