Abstract
The main interest in this research is two-fold: (1) to analyse the shipping law discourse by focusing on the verbal communicative interaction between the author and the reader and by presenting an overall description, functioning and organization of language patterns used in the different discourse-level features of maritime english documents; (2) to explore how discourse analysis is an important tool for both teachers and learners by revealing the kind of strategies and materials which better fits the needs of Maritime English learners.
