Lectura y edición popular en la España ilustrada: las colecciones del impresor Manuel Martín

Abstract

La segunda mitad del siglo XVIII fue una época de incremento en la producción y comercialización de libros y papeles periódicos, así como de una ampliación del público lector. En esta época, la literatura popular impresa continuaba siendo una importante fuente de ingresos para muchos negocios que se especializaron en este género de publicaciones: obras muy difundidas que eran las lecturas favoritas de un público numeroso. El impresor Manuel Martín integró un antiguo género editorial popular en el moderno contexto literario y editorial favorable a la novela corta publicada en colecciones surgido en el último tercio de siglo.

The second half of the eighteenth century was an era of increased production and marketing of books and periodicals, as well as an expansion of readership. At that time, popular printed literature continued to be an important source of income for many book businesses that were specialized in this type of publications, very widely distributed works being favorite reading for a large public. Printer Manuel Martín integrated an old popular publishing genre into the modern literary and publishing context favorable to the short novel published in collections that emerged in the last third of the century.
