Anatomía y Embriología HumanaAbstract
Roux en Y Gastric bypass is the gold standard surgical method in bariatric surgery, with a severe improvements in the Type 2 Diabetic mellitus. But, many patients used to relapse to the diabetic status five years after this aggressive surgical procedure. We focused on the changes in the beta-cell population and absorptive intestinal consequences after RYGB in a healthy non-obese animal model after a long survival period. To our purpose, we used three Wistar rat groups: RYGB-operated, surgical control (Sham) and fasting control. We measured: alfa-cell and beta-cell mass; transcription -Arx, Pdx-1 and Pax6- and proliferation –Pdx-1- factors; glucose tolerance and insulin release after oral glucose tests; histological adaptive changes in jejunum and intestinal glucose transporter.
