“Andrea Chénier” de Umberto Giordano y su reinterpretación de la Revolución francesa

Abstract

Andrea Chénier de Umberto Giordano se inspira en un personaje histórico, el poeta francés André-Marie Chénier, activista político que muere guillotinado en 1794. Este trabajo pretende analizar cómo se reinterpreta la Revolución francesa, contexto en el que se desarrolla a la acción de esta ópera, por diversos fines de carácter estético y comercial. Asimismo, su singular adscripción dentro de la corriente verista y la repercusión de esta obra en la historia del teatro lírico.

Andrea Chénier de Umberto Giordano is inspired by a historical personage, the French poet André-Marie Chénier, political activist who died guillotined in 1794. This work tries to analyze how the French Revolution is reinterpreted, context in which it develops to the action of this opera, for various purposes of an aesthetic and commercial nature. Also, its unique affiliation within the verista current and the repercussion of this work in the history of lyrical theater.
