La prostitución en la Roma del siglo I.

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo es analizar un fenómeno transversal en la historia de la humanidad, como es la prostitución, en la Roma del siglo I d.C., poner de relieve su importancia y repercusión en la sociedad romana, su fundamento tanto social como económico, así como su contradicción con la moral romana; estudiar la figura de la prostituta y todo lo referente al ejercicio de su oficio. Finalmente, comprobaremos el diferente tratamiento legal y moral que se dispensaba al oficio de la prostitución en relación con el atribuido a la prostituta.

The purpose of this work is analyze a cross- cutting phenomenon in the history of humanity, prostitution, in first century Rome, highlight its importance and impact on Roman society, its social and economic foundation, as well as its contradiction with Roman morals; study the figure of the prostitute and everything related to the exercise of her craft. Finally, we will check the different legal and moral treatment that was dispensed to the office of prostitution in relation to that attributed to the prostitute.
