English for specific purposes: studies for classroom development and implementation

Abstract

Since its emergence in the early 1960’s, the importance of English

for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the general context of English Language

Teaching (ELT) has done nothing but grow. Given the present status of

English as the language for international business and scientific and

technical communication, more and more specialised courses are being

demanded by students or professionals from different fields, ranging from

medicine and law to social work or shipping.
