The purpose of this chapter is to address this imbalance. Using a systematic literature review, we thematically review and analyse the R&D leader role within an OI R&D environment. We identified three main themes, OI implementation, fear and firm performance, and using these themes an organising framework we outline future avenues of research. We also argue that there is a need to undertake further research on the role of R&D leader within an OI R&D environment to adequately equip and support them in the day to day management of OI.}, organization = {This study has benefited from financing from Research Project ECO2014-56580-R of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.}, publisher = {Springer}, keywords = {Open Innovation}, keywords = {Management}, keywords = {Leadership}, keywords = {R&D}, keywords = {R&D Leadership}, keywords = {Performance}, keywords = {Fear}, keywords = {Implementation}, keywords = {R&D Managers}, title = {A Systematic Literature Review of Open Innovation and R&D Managers}, doi = {10.1007/978-3-030-61605-2_2}, author = {Cunningham, James A. and Foncubierta Rodríguez, María José and Martín Alcázar, Fernando and Perea Vicente, José Luis}, }
