This study analyses the use of English modal verbs within the field of Corpus Linguistics and second language acquisition. The research follows a corpus-based methodology with the use of the British National Corpus (BNC) and the Open Cambridge Learner Corpus (OCLC), together with both quantitative and qualitative data.
