Through the use of these linguistic devices, politicians can achieve several results in their speech such as attenuate sensitive information or facilitate the understanding of complex concepts to the audience. This paper analyzes six linguistic devices which are the most used: hedging, the rule of three, deixis, contrastive pairs, anaphora and parallelism and metaphors, through the transcriptions of the speeches of the last two US presidents, Barack Obama and Donald Trump. The use of such devices has an effect on the audience and contributes to a more effective and persuasive speech, and at the same time is helpful to determine the style of each president. %K discourse %K linguistic devices %K critical discourse analysis (CDA) %K political discourse %K persuasion %K Obama %K Trump %K discurso %K recursos lingüísticos %K análisis crítico del discurso (ACD) %K discurso político %K persuasión %~ Universidad de Cádiz
