%T “PERMACOAST”: Aproximação Conceitual e Metodológica Entre Gestão Costeira Integrada e Permacultura

%X Integrated Coastal Management systematizes a set of
processes and forms of planning, integration and use
of coastal natural and cultural spaces and resources, in
order to make the human settlements sustainable and
viable in these ecosystems. Due to their territorial specificities, the studies and research that support them
concentrate on the characteristics, potentialities and
conflicts of the coastal areas. However, there are great
possibilities for the improvement of this discipline, by the approximation with the references, principles and methodologies used in Permaculture, a discipline designed and applied for the sustainability of architectural arrangements and agroforestry productive processes. Both
disciplines are based on a set of references, based on ecological structures and processes (Systems Theory) and
the development of management systems of territories and natural resources, integrating the different approaches, with a view to sustainability (Traditional Ecological Knowledge, Comanagement of Natural Resources
and Ecosystem Based Management). The convergences and similarities between both disciplines can contribute
to its success, as well as its main differences: while Integrated Coastal Management predominantly acts on a
regional, national or international scale, in the technical and political field, promoting the socio-environmental
management process of spaces and coastal resources, Permaculture focuses on the local or regional scale, on
daily praxis, promoting direct management interventions, food production, energy generation, alternatives to
the circulation of products and services. Thus, we understand as pertinent, salutary and growing the tendency
to approach “integrated management of coastal areas” and “permaculture”, as an effort directed at the use and
conservation of ecosystem services provided by coastal spaces and resources.
