%X The book constitutes a call to reflect on the rational kalām heritage, not from the standpoint of traditional logic—which long monopolized the question of Islamic rational evaluation—but rather from the results of methodological deviation from this traditional pattern of logical evaluation, and by drawing on the findings of modern logical studies, particularly natural logic or, more precisely, argumentation theory. This call is based on the assumption that argumentation theory, as a theory of natural inferential practice, enables us to grasp the inferential practice in kalām and its breadth. Argumentation theory and kalām rational thought converge in that both intersect traditional demonstrative laws and transcend the propositional mold, as it nullifies the capacity to respond to the specificities of natural thought and discourse.
