<summary type="text">LFAM with metallic materials. Structure, Microstructure, and Characterization.
Segovia Guerrero, Luis; Baladés Ruiz, Nuria; Sales Lérida, David
This chapter discusses large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM) with metallic materials, emphasizing the structure, microstructure and characterization of the final products. LFAM technologies enable the production of large-scale components with complex geometries, offering benefits such as reduced material waste, lead time and costs. Metal materials in LFAM provide advantages in strength, durability and conductivity, making them suitable for high-performance applications. The chapter delves into critical aspects like porosity, phase composition, grain size, residual stress and chemical composition, which influence the quality and performance of LFAM components. Porosity, for instance, impacts mechanical integrity and dimensional accuracy, while grain size and phase distribution affect mechanical properties. Various characterization techniques, including microscopy, X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic methods, are employed to analyze these factors. The chapter highlights the importance of precise control over processing parameters and post-processing steps to optimize the microstructure and mechanical properties of LFAM-produced metal parts.

<summary type="text">Preserving cultural heritage stone: Innovative consolidant, superhydrophobic, self-cleaning, and biocidal products
Zarzuela Sánchez, Rafael; Luna Aguilera, Manuel Jesús; Martínez Carrascosa, Luis Antonio; Mosquera Díaz, María Jesús
Most products commonly employed in the restoration and conservation of cultural heritage stone have not been specifically developed to preserve such elements. In addition, they are plagued by limited performance and structural drawbacks such as low adhesion, poor penetration, and cracking. Another disadvantage is the requirement for most products to be dissolved in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which produce environmental and human health risks in their use. An innovative sol–gel route for preserving cultural heritage stonework has been developed and is discussed herein. Specifically, a surfactant-assisted sol–gel synthesis produces, in situ on the stonework, crack-free nanomaterials to be used as long-term consolidants. Additionally, hydrophobic, water-repellent, self-cleaning, and biocidal properties can be incorporated into the product by innovative chemical modifications of the proposed synthesis route.

El mundo globalizado y en constante cambio en que el vivimos, hace&#13;
que cada individuo tenga que enfrentarse a situaciones complejas que&#13;
puedan malograr su inserción en esta sociedad desafiante. Ante esta&#13;
perspectiva nada halagüeña, la educación junto con la formación debe&#13;
hacer eco a esta realidad, y por ello: i) formar un tándem y ii) dar respuesta&#13;
a los retos y desafíos que se plantean bajo esta perspectiva, con&#13;
la finalidad de preparar a los individuos para afrontar y superar tales&#13;
