Albert Girona, Marina
This Final Degree Project aims to contribute to the debate on political correctness in general and so-called politically correct language in particular. A study is carried out on the basis of a critical discourse analysis of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent figure in US politics nowadays. The initial hypothesis is that social transformation has contributed to substantial modifications in the elaboration of political discourse and that a set of such changes has led to the use of what is considered politically correct language. In order to examine this question, a corpus of oral scripted discourses has been selected. Three linguistic strategies were identified: self-representation, (re)framing and inclusive language. Drawing upon theories from discourse analysis and previous specialised research done on the subject, the study’s implications of the study on public perception, political polarisation, and the effectiveness of the strategies have been assessed.

Several articles suggesting the disappearance of yanito have been published over the years. However, this linguistic phenomenon has not yet been widely studied in the field of social media, where several websites are working on preserving yanito by taking advantage of the multiple resources made available by the new digital tools. Due to the paucity of research on yanito in social media, a functional analysis of code-switching used in Gibraltarian public media such as television and print media as well as in social media will be carried out on the basis of the functional categories of code-switching established by Gumperz (1982), San (2009) and Montes-Alcalá (2007). The purpose of this study is to explore and determine possible differences regarding speakers' use of code-switching in distinct communication spheres, thus checking whether new functions of code-switching identified on the Internet, linked to the linguistic identity of the users, could possibly reverse its decline.

López Núñez, Catalina
The present project shows a lexical study of Romani dialects in Spain and England and its&#13;
presence among non-Gypsy speakers today. This study covers Sociolinguistics as a&#13;
discipline, making an observation of this dialect in its social context. The relevance of&#13;
studying this dialect is due to the fact that there are few studies focused on positive aspects of&#13;
the Romani dialect, such as the lexicon on the family field. The methodological basis for this&#13;
research comprises two surveys, one for Caló and the other for Angloromani, which&#13;
rigorously shows the knowledge of the informants about the dialect.; El presente proyecto muestra un estudio léxico de los dialectos del romaní en España e&#13;
Inglaterra y su presencia entre los hablantes no gitanos en la actualidad. Este estudio aborda&#13;
la Sociolingüística como disciplina, haciendo una observación de este dialecto en su contexto&#13;
social. La relevancia de estudiar este dialecto se debe a que existen pocos estudios centrados&#13;
en aspectos positivos del dialecto romaní, como es el léxico del ámbito familiar. La base&#13;
metodológica de esta investigación consta de dos encuestas, una para el Caló y otra para el&#13;
Anglorromaní, que muestran de manera rigurosa el conocimiento de los informantes sobre el&#13;
dialecto.

<summary type="text">Contrastive analysis of the prepositions 'para/por' in Spanish, English and German and its learning through Digital Platforms
Pérez Serrano, Luis
Contrastive linguistic studies show that one of the grammatical areas that presents the highest level of difficulty in second language teaching and learning environments is the usage of prepositional phrases and, concretely, the usage of 'para' and 'por'. In fact, the distinction between these prepositions does not seem to be so obvious in an intralinguistic level. In this sense, this study intends to identify the potential areas of difficulty that may obstacle the teaching and learning processes of Spanish students, specifically the acquisition of these prepositions in both English and German through a contrastive analysis. In addition, the popular M-Learning application Duolingo will be proposed as a possible tool that does not only stimulate the development of the general and specific competences that the Common European Framework of Reference for languages: learning, teaching, assessment (2020) points out, but also encourage the learner's motivation towards the teaching and learning processes and the acquisition of digital competences.
