<title>Tendencias de las poblaciones del conejo de monte en Castilla-La Mancha</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10498/39362</link>
Hablar del conejo de monte es hablar de nuestra tierra, de nuestros campos&#13;
y de la vida que late en ellos. Este pequeño animal, tan común a simple vista,&#13;
es en realidad una pieza fundamental en el equilibrio de nuestros ecosistemas&#13;
y en la supervivencia de especies emblemáticas, por otro lado, también&#13;
es la especie que más daños provoca a la agricultura, habiendo en la actualidad&#13;
un conflicto entre agricultores, distintas administraciones, cazadores&#13;
y conservacionistas.&#13;
En los últimos años, la gestión del conejo ha estado rodeada de debates,&#13;
opiniones encontradas e incluso bulos que circulan por redes sociales: desde&#13;
supuestas plagas incontroladas hasta teorías sobre híbridos o sueltas masivas&#13;
por parte de la Administración. Ante esta situación, se hacía necesario un&#13;
trabajo riguroso que aportara luz, conocimiento y datos contrastados. Por&#13;
eso, este libro es tan importante: porque reúne a grandes expertos que nos&#13;
cuentan, con rigor y claridad, cómo es realmente la situación del conejo en&#13;
Castilla-La Mancha, compartiendo aquí su experiencia y sus investigaciones,&#13;
la mayoría de ellas realizadas en la comunidad autónoma.&#13;
Nos gustaría que fuera una herramienta o manual de autoayuda para los&#13;
agricultores que sufren daños en sus explotaciones y para los cazadores que&#13;
o bien tienen que gestionar sobreabundancias, o hacer frente a la desaparición&#13;
de la especie en sus acotados. El resultado es una obra que no solo&#13;
desmonta mitos, sino que también plantea soluciones y estrategias para una&#13;
gestión sostenible, equilibrada y basada en la evidencia.&#13;
Desde el Servicio de Caza de la Consejería de Desarrollo Sostenible, queremos&#13;
agradecer el esfuerzo de todos los autores y autoras que han hecho&#13;
posible este proyecto, así como el compromiso del sector cinegético, el&#13;
mundo rural y la sociedad en general por gestionar nuestra biodiversidad.&#13;
Porque solo desde el conocimiento podremos garantizar el futuro de nuestro&#13;
mundo rural, sus habitantes y la salud de nuestros ecosistemas

<title>Forest raptor migration over the Strait of Gibraltar</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10498/38682</link>
<description>Forest raptor migration over the Strait of Gibraltar
Onrubia, Alejandro; Muñoz, Gonzalo; Barrios, Luis; Cruz Muñoz, Andrés de la; Román Muñoz, Antonio
The Strait of Gibraltar is one of the most important places for bird migration in the world. Its location in an important migratory axis known as the Occidental route of the migratory Palearctic-African system and its geographic position between the European and Af- rican continents bearly separated by 14 kilometers of sea turns the Strait into one of the most important “bot- tlenecks” for bird migration through the Mediterranean. Particularly relevant is the mass migration of soaring birds (raptors and storks), with limitations for long-haul flights over the sea for which the Strait constitutes an ob- ligatory pass and an annual concentration point (Bernis, 1980; Zalles &amp; Bildstein, 2000).&#13;
This relevance of the Gibraltar Strait for bird migration has turned it into one of the areas of the Iberian penin- sula with most ornithological tradition. True reflection of this is the notable ammount of information avail- able in books, articles, and notes currently published. The first exhaustive study about the Strait is due to the works of H.L. Irby who first published his “Ornithology of the Strait of Gibraltar” in 1895. Since then, notable contributions have followed either from the Moroccan side or the Iberian, these being the works of Evans and Lathbury (1973), Bernis (1980) on soaring birds, spe- cially remarkable for their depth and rigor as well as those about non-soaring birds by Tellería (1981), contin- ued with later revisions of general characteristics (case of Finlayson, 1992) or more specific (Fernández-Cruz, 2005; Bensusan et al., 2007).

<title>The prestige oil spill</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10498/34917</link>
<description>The prestige oil spill
Albaigés, Joan; Bernabeu, Ana; Castanedo, Sonia; Jiménez, Nuria; Morales Caselles, María del Carmen; Puente, Araceli; Viñas, Lucía
The accident on November 13, 2002 of the Prestige oil tanker, transporting 77,000 tons of a heavy fuel oil, 50 km off the Galicia coast (NW Spain), and its sinking 200 km offshore after an oil leakage for 6 days started a massive oil spill, affecting more than 800 km of the NW Spanish coast and even some areas of SW France, including the Galicia coast, one of the prime producers of commercial shellfish worldwide.&#13;
An operational forecasting system, encompassing overflight information, meteorological and oceanographic data collection, and numerical models, was implemented for predicting oil spill trajectories and providing decision makers with technical assessment to respond to the oil spill. This was essential because the massive spreading of the oil made it difficult to respond with the conventional tools. The high density and viscosity of the oil led to the formation of stable emulsions with water, which were broken …

<description>The Biological Clock of Sole: From Early Stages to Adults
