Over the last years, the systematization of a wide range of archaelogical findings, related to the manufacture and distribution of salted-fi sh and fish-sauces of the Southern Coast of Hispania has been carried out, and it has provided the archaeological knowledge with a solid documentary basis to study this area of the hispanic ancient economy. Even though, it is necessary to suggest and explore some new historical hypothesis, inferred from the critical study of this material fi ndings and the re-reading of the literary and epigraphic sources,to surpass the risk of perpetuating the development of accumulative works exclusively based on archaeological data, being lattest unhelpful themselves to elaborate a Socioeconomic History of the Baetican coasts.en_US
