Abstract

This article deals with the Spanish Republic exile, specifically the efforts of Juan Negrín –former Prime Minister– and Julio Alvarez del Vayo –former Foreign Minister– to promote the Republican cause in the exile during the years 1939 to l952. Both politicians acted almost always in much the same way and they claimed until 1945 to be the legitimate representatives of the Spanish republican government. To that end, as a pressure group, they aimed to be recognized by the Allied powers, the main international institutions and by international public opinion.
