Abstract

This paper aims to analyse the origin and development of two concepts in the study of Paleolithic rock art as descriptive elements and identity features of diverse regions, chronologies and graphical traditions: “trilineal deer” and “bec de canard”. Their use as regional and chrono-stylistic markers is discussed and the overcoming them is suggested in favour of objective research methodologies such as morphotypological analysis which allows putting on context the style and chronology of Paleolithic figures.
