Sacrilegios y crímenes rituales: el judío como encarnación de la infamia en los romances de ciego españoles (1700-1850)

Abstract

Este artículo estudia el tratamiento literario de la figura del judío en un corpus de romances de ciego de principios del siglo XVIII a mediados del siglo siguiente. El análisis de la repetición de algunos motivos y caracterizaciones permitirá evidenciar la existencia de un judío tipo, intrínsecamente malo y sacrílego. Compararemos a esta figura con personajes similares pero de religión cristiana y la pondremos en perspectiva con un breve estudio de las fuentes literarias y del contexto socio-histórico, para intentar comprender el florecimiento en esta época de los romances de judíos. Los mecanismos ejemplares y el uso de lo maravilloso serán también analizados en este trabajo. This article studies the literary presentation of the figure of the Jew in a corpus of chapbooks from early eighteenth century to mid-nineteenth century. The analysis of repetitive motives and characterizations will reveal the existence of a typical Jew, intrinsically bad and sacrilegious. We will compare this figure to similar but Christian characters and put it into perspective with a brief study of the literary sources and of the sociohistorical context, in order to understand why the Jew chapbooks flourish in that period. The exemplar mechanisms and the use of the marvellous will also be analysed in this work.
