Abstract

The abundance of sociological studies on Vietnam’s transitional process after the 1959-1975 war is in stark contrast with the scarcity of research on contemporary Vietnamese art. This paper aims to intersect both fields to observe how the work of three generations of artists links to the rapid urban development that Vietnam is going through. How have artists living in the country’s biggest metropolis responded to their fast changing environment? Artworks by Nguyen Trung, Tiffany Chung and young graffiti artists and cultural entrepreneurs will help to reflect upon the enormous transformation of Ho Chi Minh City.
