Abstract

Spanish community media (CM) see the Internet as a place where they can freely express themselves, after all the difficulties set up by the Spanish legislation. With their prominent social role, these CM are developing an online cyber-activity and cyber-activism through different platforms and resources, which facilitate all the communicative phases and improve collaborative work for the benefit of common causes. Although they did not originated on the Internet, CM have benefited from the possibilities of visibility, spreading their communicative products and messages and improving their situation in the communicative context of the country. This article will discuss the differences between cyber-activity and cyber-activism as different uses that the CM make of the possibilities offered by the Internet.
