In this work, we will analyze society-environment relations in the context of war, paying attention to the role played by water. The Napoleonic siege of Cádiz and Isla de Leon (1810-1812), in the context of the Peninsular war, has been chosen as object of study. The availability of water supplies and the ability of the besieged to take advantage of their immediate environment for defensive purposes were decisive for the development of the war, contributing to the victory of the defenders. While the Napoleonic occupation forces were overwhelmed and unable to achieve victory, Cádiz and Isla de León were the scene of intense social and political activity that concluded with the proclamation of the first Spanish constitution on March 19, 1812. Finally, the siege was lifted without success. Key words: Peninsular War, siege of Cádiz, coastal landscape, Bay of Cádiz, Ripariaes_ES
