This research analyzes the migratory trajectories of Latin American women who moved to Spain to study at the University of Cadiz. Through a qualitative methodological proposal, this project considers the voices, experiences and feelings from them, placing their perceptions and ways of meaning the realities they are going through, at the center of the investigation. Moreover, exposes the theoretical framework that supports and dialogues with the results, considering the main contributions of decolonial feminism, the analysis of migrations with a gender perspective, the discussions about the econocentrism in them, and a brief historical journey about the place of women in science and university.
We use interviews to get closer to the context and decisions that brought the migrants here. This technique also allows for a better understanding of the situations and challenges they faced day by day in Spain. Next, the current expressions of the colonial-patriarchal system are analyzed, and the views constructed from south-to-north, and north-to-south. Finally, a revision of the identity transformations enunciated by the characters is reviewed, which is considered a central part of their trajectories.
In the quest to make visible and deepen the knowledge of migrant experiences that are not usually studied and are not part of the hegemonic discourses constructed about it, this research can become a bridge to extend the representations around the cross-border movements. This could be possible, if we installed new questions and perceptions about this reality, and we prioritize new interlocutions on the subject.
