Los montañeses y la trata de negros en Cuba

Abstract

En el comercio de esclavos que ejerció España en el siglo XIX destacaron los puertos de Cádiz a finales del XVIII y principios del XIX, Santander poco después y Barcelona, que comenzó a hacerlo hacia los años 20 de aquel siglo. Este trabajo estudia la relación que tuvo Santander con la trata de negros, en la que participaron no pocos montañeses, quiénes fueron estos y cómo situarlos dentro del mundo comercial y social de la Península y de Cuba en aquel siglo.

In the slave trade carried out by Spain in the 19th century, several ports stood out: Cadiz at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century, Santander shortly after, and Barcelona, starting around the 1820s. This paper studies the relationship that Santander had with the slave trade, in which not a few montañeses participated, who they were and how they were situated within the commercial and social world of the Peninsula and Cuba in that century.
