Abstract

The participation of women in the slave trade during the colonization of Spanish America has not been widely studied. Even less about the specific trade in slave women. In this work, based on notarial sources, it is shown for the first time that, in Guanajuato, one of the main towns of the Spanish empire, women were the main traffickers of slave women during the first half of the 18th century. The generic profile of both slave women and slave women is also characterized, providing data on prices related to age and skin color. It is concluded that the trend of the slave trade was downward during the study period.
