ALBA is the Spanish 3rd-generation synchrotron light source, located in Cerdanyola del Vallès, near
Barcelona, recently come into operation with seven Phase-I Beamlines. The e– beam energy is 3 GeV,
and the photon energy available in these #rst beamlines ranges from UV up to hard X-ray of tens of keV.
Di$erent techniques of synchrotron radiation utilization are available including di$raction, spectroscopies
and imaging. We will describe the project, its history, present status and future perspectives.
