Abstract
Lucius Flaminius Siculus’ Commentariolus in Plinii prohemium is the first Plinian commentary printed in Spain, in 1504. This ecdotic and linguistic post-incunable was written with an eminently didactic purpose for the students of the University of Salamanca. The study of the express sources (Niccolò Perotti, Ermolao Barbaro and Pomponio Leto) reveals the preponderant influence of Perotti’s Plinian commentary and the Cornu Copiae in Flaminius’ work. The philological analysis of this influence establishes the necessary textual affiliations that provide the keys to the beginnings in Spain of hermeneutics and the printed textual criticism of the Naturalis Historia
