Abstract
Nowadays, innovation is a concept of vital importance in society, not only because of what we understand theoretically, but also because of what innovation means at a business level. Companies seek to move forward, to modernise, and to do so they use innovation. The main purpose of this work will be to try to give an explanation of the concept of innovation, to study whether it is used by companies as a primary source of growth and to study the relationship of innovation with respect to the different factors that can influence innovation. In order to achieve the fundamental objective previously written, we will first define what innovation is, explaining different types of it. After this, we will carry out a review of the literature, where we will try to tackle different socio-economic theories and how they deal with innovation in each one of them, and of course a theoretical study of different authors who write about possible variables that may affect innovation in general and specifically in the textile sector. This will be followed by the empirical analysis that will attempt to study how product innovation is related to each of the variables mentioned in the literature review, this will be achieved through a descriptive analysis carried out with the information from the PITEC database. Finally, the conclusions that can be drawn from our study will be drawn.
