Abstract

The social media platforms of universities, especially Instagram, play a key role in promoting sports and healthy lifestyles among the younger generation. The main objective of this study is to analyse the strategies employed by the sports services of public universities in Andalusia on Instagram to promote sports and equality. To carry out this research, a mixed methodology has been chosen. An impact analysis of the profiles is conducted using the Fanpage Karma tool, and a content analysis based on the semiotics of discourse is carried out using the SPSS software. A total of 347 posts published by the universities of Jaén, Córdoba, Huelva, Cádiz, Granada, Málaga, and Almería during the first three months of the academic year (September 12 to December 31, 2023) were examined. The results reveal that there is no proportional relationship between the frequency of publication and the generated impact. Common semiotic variables in the message, as well as relevant differences, were also identified. Additionally, it is observed that all university accounts could better promote sports among students and values related to equality and diversity.
