Woman discrimination and gender violence in the Islam

Abstract

Women discrimination and gender violence are by no means a recent phenomenon, because they are the consequence of the ancestral patriarchal conception of women inferiority and submission. Discrimination and violence against women, just for their gender, is a social problem worldwide, including developed societies. To understand these behaviors we should know their origins and sources, the reasons of their survival during centuries until today, and the mechanisms used to maintain their compliance by women. Therefore, this article reviews all these aspects of women inequality and submission in the Islam and the Islamic societies.
