Abstract

Cádiz is a city located in the south of Andalusia, in Spain. The Carnival of Cádiz is one of the most traditional festivals in the city. However, the presence of women in this celebration has historically been limited. In recent years, though, women have been gaining more visibility and prominence in the event. In 2025, Carolina García Orihuela, Brenda García, and Miriam Ballesteros became winners of the official carnival competition. This recent achievement marks another significant step toward equality in this field. Additionally, we have the personal story of a young comparsista, Yolanda Álvarez Utrera, who shares her experience within the world of carnival. This reflects a gradual shift in female representation. The Carnival of Cádiz is evolving, embracing voices that were once silenced.
