Abstract

El libro muestra cómo la población, en su mayoría analfabeta, comenzó a interesarse en la prevención de enfermedades gracias a mejoras sanitarias y nuevas regulaciones. Este Instituto fue un proyecto pionero en España, apoyado por la Dirección General de Sanidad y la Fundación Rockefeller. Su éxito en la lucha contra problemas como la alta mortalidad infantil y las enfermedades infecciosas se debió en parte al trabajo del Dr. Ruiz-Morote y a la labor de las Enfermeras Visitadoras. Estas enfermeras, como Inés Oyarzábal, se formaron en el extranjero y actuaron como un punto de contacto crucial, llevando la educación sanitaria directamente a los hogares y ayudando a detectar brotes epidémicos.

The book shows how the population, which was mostly illiterate, began to take an interest in disease prevention thanks to sanitary improvements and new regulations. This Institute was a pioneering project in Spain, supported by the General Directorate of Health and the Rockefeller Foundation. Its success in fighting issues like high infant mortality and infectious diseases was due in part to the work of Dr. Ruiz-Morote and the efforts of the Visiting Nurses. These nurses, such as Inés Oyarzábal, trained abroad and acted as a crucial point of contact, bringing health education directly into homes and helping to detect epidemic outbreaks.
