Abstract

This End of Degree Project describes and analyzes the 50th anniversary of the Spanish Political Transition, a key period in contemporary history of Spain that marked the transition from the Franco dictatorship to a democratic system. Through a historical and legal perspective, this research examines the main milestones of the Transition from the death of Francisco Franco in 1975 to the consolidation of democracy with the first democratic elections and the Constitution of 1978. In correlation with this, this study explores the role of key figures, serving as a example King Juan Carlos I or Adolfo Suárez, as well as the influence of internal and external factors in the democratization process. In addition, the challenges and controversies that have arisen around the narrative of the Transition are addressed, especially in the current context, 50 years after this period. Through the analysis of historical and legislative sources, this study reflects on the legacy of the Transition and its impact on contemporary Spain. It also examines current debates on historical memory, institutional reforms and the territorial model of the State. In conclusion, this project not only seeks to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Transition, but also to offer a critical and updated vision of its meaning and its consequences in Spanish society in the 21st century
