In this article, Leonor Acosta-Bustamante is dedicated to the question of how Paolo Sorrentino explores the problematic acceptance of ageing masculinity in The Great Beauty (2013). The narrative presents two sets of sequences in a collage that establish a short-circuit movement related to the protagonist's psychological process when facing old age. The first set is composed of introspective monologues addressing the spectator and showing reveries and nostalgia for the loss of youth, while the second displays an insistent exhibition of social partying located in a decadent Rome that produces a psychological noise just to hide the reality of his self.
