Actividad Arqueológica Puntual en la Muralla Norte del Castillo de Doña Blanca (El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz) – 2024 – DB003

Abstract

Se presentan los resultados de la Actividad Arqueológica Puntual (DB003), desarrollada entre junio y noviembre de 2024 en el yacimiento del Castillo de Doña Blanca (El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz). Esta intervención marca la reactivación de la investigación arqueológica en el sitio, concretamente en el sector norte de la muralla, tras dos décadas de inactividad. A través de siete sondeos estratigráficos se han obtenido datos decisivos que precisan la secuencia constructiva y la evolución del complejo sistema defensivo fenicio-púnico. Entre los hallazgos más relevantes destacan el descubrimiento de una poterna integrada en una torre de flanqueo de la fase púnico-helenística (CDB III), la identificación de estructuras viarias previas de la fase CDB II amortizadas por dicha torre, y la documentación de una secuencia estratigráfica inédita de vertidos extramuros datada en el siglo IV a.n.e., crucial para afinar la cronología. Los resultados permiten rectificar aspectos de la periodización establecida y subrayan la necesidad de un Proyecto General de Investigación que, mediante excavaciones en extensión, aborde integralmente la complejidad urbanística y poliorcética del enclave. La intervención define además una prometedora línea de trabajo futuro centrada en el estudio de la posible entrada monumental localizada en este sector norte.

The results of the Specific Archaeological Activity (DB003) are presented, carried out between June and November 2024 at the Castillo de Doña Blanca site (El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz). Seven stratigraphic surveys have yielded decisive data that clarify the construction sequence and evolution of the complex Phoenician-Punic defensive system. Among the most relevant findings are the discovery of a postern gate integrated into a flanking tower from the Punic-Hellenistic phase (CDB III), the identification of earlier road structures from the CDB II phase that were covered by this tower, and the documentation of an unprecedented stratigraphic sequence of extramural waste dating from the 4th century BCE, crucial for refining the chronology. The results allow for the rectification of aspects of the established periodisation and highlight the need for a General Research Project which, through extensive excavations, comprehensively addresses the urban and poliorcetic complexity of the enclave. The intervention also defines a promising line of future work focused on the study of the possible monumental entrance located in this northern sector.
