La academia española frente al genocidio en Gaza

Abstract

Este artículo estudia el comportamiento de la academia española ante los efectos de la violencia ejercida contra la población palestina, durante los veinte meses posteriores a los acontecimientos del 7 de octubre de 2023. En particular, analiza la evolución de la postura del sistema universitario público ante el genocidio en Gaza y de las movilizaciones que una parte de sus comunidades llevaron a cabo para incidir en ese conflicto. La investigación parte de una metodología cualitativa que incluye el análisis documental de diversas fuentes primarias y secundarias, la utilización de dos grupos focales y la observación participante. El estudio ha permitido identificar cuatro fases diferenciadas en la evolución de la posición de la academia española a lo largo de este período, explicando sus motivaciones, señalando las cuestiones que han influido en los cambios y mostrando los alcances que han tenido los procesos de movilización de la comunidad universitaria.

This article explores the response of the Spanish academic community towards the issue of violence against the Palestinian population in the aftermath of the events of 7th October 2023, spanning a period of twenty months. It focuses, in particular, on the evolution of the position of the public university system in the face of the genocide in Gaza and the collective actionsthat some sections of its communities developed to influence the conflict. This research is grounded in a qualitative methodology, encompassing a meticulous documentary analysis of assorted primary and secondary sources, the implementation of two focus groups, and participant observation. The study has enabled the identification of four distinct phases in the evolution of the Spanish academy’s position throughout this period. These findings explain the rationality behind its stances, highlight the issues influencing the changes, and demonstrate the impact of collective action for Palestine from university communities.
