This qualitative-narrative research project aims to explore the memories of a
former student of Valcárcel School in the 1970s and, based on his account, reconstruct
part of the history and legacy that the school left on him. Childhood plays an important
role in understanding how he experienced those years in relation to physical education,
when it was known as gymnastics and futbito (indoor soccer) was the most popular sport
among students, according to the informant, a boy who was enrolled in general basic
education (EGB). The results are organized around five thematic areas that articulate the
journey through memories, physical education, play, and sport. The conclusions
established are that the expectations outlined in the research questions have been met.
