Disidencia, resistencia e identidad travesti en la dictadura: tengo miedo torero de Pedro Lemebel

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza la construcción de la identidad travesti en Tengo miedo torero (2001) de Pedro Lemebel, examinando cómo la figura de la Loca del Frente articula una subjetividad disidente mediante la estética camp, el lenguaje y la performatividad de género; y como el componente autobiográfico resalta el componente de resistencia al formarse desde los márgenes. Para ello, se aplican los marcos teóricos de Judith Butler y Susan Sontag a través de una lectura atenta de la novela. El análisis concluye que la identidad travesti de la loca no responde a una esencia fija, se construye mediante actos performativos repetidos que, aunque precarios, constituyen una resistencia efectiva ante un poder que niega su existencia. En un Chile dictatorial, el artificio de la loca reescribe la realidad, demostrando que la supervivencia travesti es, en sí misma, un acto subversivo. La novela reivindica así una literatura marginal que desmonta normas de género y sexualidad.

This work’s aim is to study how travesti identity is constructed in the novel Tengo miedo torero (2001) by Pedro Lemebel through camp aesthetics, language, and gender performativity; and how the novel’s relationship with autofiction highlights the aspect of resistance. In order to do so, theories from queer studies have been applied, such as Judith Butler’s and Susan Sontag’s. The analysis has concluded that the main character’s travesti identity is not a fixed essence but rather constructed through repeated performative acts that, even though they are precarious, constitute an effective resistance to the power that negates her existence. In a dictatorial Chile, the main character’s artifice rewrites reality, demonstrating that travesti’s survival is, in itself, a subversive act. The novel reclaims a liminal literature that debunks gender and sexuality norms.
