AB Valdevaqueros dune area is located in the SW of Spain(Tarifa, Cádiz) and represents an important recreationalzone. However, after Spanish Shore Act approbation in1988, sand extractions were prohibited and the systembegan to loose stability producing the dune invasionlandwards.The main objective of this paper is to present anintegrated study of alternatives for Valdevaqueros dunearea, considering all the problems involved: dunedegradation, invasion of Punta Paloma road by themobile dune, excessive recreational pressure on thedune area and adjacent lagoon, parking lotsresettlements, and undesirable land uses in thesurroundings, among the most important problemsfound in that area. In particular, a cost-benefit analysisfor different alternatives was carried out regarding theroad-dune interaction.
