On this matter, Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart" and Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o's "The River Between" constitute the major example to illustrate the Igbo and Kikuyu pre-colonial societies. Furthermore, both novels reveal the deep cultural conflicts that arose as a result of the British imposition.
