These form the main foundations ofthe current music industry, especially in the rap and hip-hop genre. Once its origins andcharacteristics are analyzed, contemporary issues such as appropriation will be discussed. Onthis matter, white rappers, like Vanilla Ice or Eminem, represent a breaking point of AfricanAmerican discrimination in the mass media, and the starting point of a music era characterizedby artists sounding black in their songs.
