These shortcomings areexpected to impact negatively ontherapies and the recovery of patient’sabilities. This paper advocates asystems biology approach todevelopmental language disorders,aimed to disentangle how the myriad ofbiological factors involved (at thebottom) interact complexly to regulatelanguage development and processing(at the surface). In particular, itadvocates a classification of disordersbased on intermediate-levelcomponents, like brain oscillations.This fresh approach to theetiopathogenesis of developmentallanguage disorders, which is morebiologically motivated and moretheoretically grounded, should allowidentify robust endophenotypes ofthese conditions, that can be used asreliable hallmarks for an earlier andmore accurate diagnosis.
