AB In some Islamic societies, in Morocco in particular, there is a kind of belief in a prolonged period of pregnancy. According to this traditional belief, a foetus can stop its growth just to resume it after a given period is elapsed, maybe one, two, five years… or maybe he never awakes. Until Moroccan independence, this tradition was deeply rooted because of the support received from the Maliki legislative school. The purpose of this paper is to detect the survival of the “sleeping child” tradition in Morocco and to find out whether being aware of this phenomenon is important or not for translators and interpreters.
