RT other T1 The long-term failure of RYGB surgery in T2DM improvement is related to hyperinsulinism. But, many patients used to relapse to the diabetic status five years after this aggressive surgical procedure. We focused on the changes in the beta-cell population and absorptive intestinal consequences after RYGB in a healthy non-obese animal model after a long survival period. To our purpose, we used three Wistar rat groups: RYGB-operated, surgical control (Sham) and fasting control. We measured: alfa-cell and beta-cell mass; transcription -Arx, Pdx-1 and Pax6- and proliferation –Pdx-1- factors; glucose tolerance and insulin release after oral glucose tests; histological adaptive changes in jejunum and intestinal glucose transporter.
