RT journal article T1 Club convergence in innovation activity across European regions A1 Barrios, Candelaria A1 Flores Varo, María Ester A1 Martínez Navarro, María Ángeles A2 Economía General AB The goal of this paper is to analyse the innovation activityconvergence process across European regions from 2002to 2012. A novel methodology that allows either detectionof overall convergence or endogenous identification ofgroups of regions was applied. The results support the clubconvergence hypothesis for explaining the convergenceprocess of Europe's regions during the period analysedand seven innovation convergence clubs were identified. In addition, the research results indicate that initial regionalR&D expenditure is the most relevant factor driving the formationof the convergence clubs after controlling for theeffects of regional structural characteristics.
