To perform such specific recognition, T cells expressat their plasma membrane an antigen receptor called the T cell receptor (TCR) (1–3). TheTCR expressed at the plasma membrane in the majority of T cells is composed by a TCR-aand TCR-b heterodimer, which is able to recognize a complex formed by an antigenicpeptide coupled to an MHC molecule (pMHC complex). After specific recognition by apMHC complex the TCR triggers multiple intracellular signals leading to proliferation, target cell killing, cytokine secretion, and differentiation into effector T cells. Although ourunderstanding of the molecular mechanisms governing activation of T cells hasdramatically grown in recent years, there is still much to learn PB Frontiers Media SA SN 1664-3224 YR 2023 FD 2023 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10498/31473 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10498/31473 LA eng DS Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de Cádiz RD 22-sep-2026
