RT journal article T1 Mainstream TV and social representations: Netflix and the Rosa Peral case A1 Lando, Arturo K1 content analysis K1 mainstream K1 social representations K1 TV series K1 non-mainstream AB This work aims to show how two Netflix audio-visual contents, Burning Body and RosaPeral’s Tapes, are perfect examples of the functioning of contemporary mainstreamnarratives. The term mainstream refers to the set of media content constructed to maximizethe audience. These two productions narrate the story of Barcelona “Urban Guard Crime”(2017-2020), respectively, using the language of a fictional TV series and a true-crimedocumentary. Based on the criterion of audience maximization, both products show that thesocial representations staged by contemporary entertainment narratives need to be based ontransgressive, unpleasant, and disturbing elements, even if they seemingly intend to presentthemselves as moral tales. In other words, mainstreaming needs relevant non-mainstreamelements to thrive PB Editorial Uca SN 2341-3255 YR 2024 FD 2024 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10498/33204 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10498/33204 LA eng DS Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de Cádiz RD 05-nov-2026
