RT journal article T1 Glutathione-magnetite nanoparticles: synthesis and physical characterization for application as MRI contrast agent A1 Beato-López, J.J. A1 Domínguez de la Vega, Manuel A1 Ramírez del Solar, Milagrosa A1 Litrán Ramos, Rocío A2 Física de la Materia Condensada AB In this work a one-pot synthesis of water soluble glutathione capped magnetitenanoparticles is reported. The magnetic characterization of the samples shows theexpected superparamagnetic behavior, but a wide range of blocking temperatures isfound, since the size and interparticle interactions are very sensitive to preparationconditions. These properties are correlated with the glutathione-iron ratio and oxidantdose, in order to optimize the aqueous colloidal stability and magnetic properties of thesuperparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for Magnetic Resonance Imagingapplications. The efficiency of the glutathione coated nanoparticles as contrast agent isthen evaluated by means of the determination of the relaxation times T1 and T2 in 1 HNuclear Magnetic Resonance experiments. Moreover, the influence of the thickness ofthe glutathione capping layer on the colloidal stability of the synthetized nanoparticlesand, thus, on relaxation times has been studied. Finally, the relaxitivity of the samplethat shows the best performance has been determined.
