RT journal article T1 Description of a new pseudocryptic species of Elysia Risso, 1818 (Heterobranchia, Sacoglossa) in the Mediterranean Sea A1 Martín-Hervás Santos, María del Rosario A1 Carmona Barnosi, Leila A1 Jensen, Kathe R A1 Licchelli, Cataldo A1 Vitale, Fabio A1 Cervera Currado, Juan Lucas A2 Biología AB A new sacoglossan species of the genusElysia Risso, 1818 from southern Italy is described basedon its external morphology, color pattern, radular teeth, and reproductive system. Specimens of this new specieswere previously attributed to Elysia viridis (Montagu,1804) because of morphological similarity, but maximum-likelihood and Bayesian analyses based on four genes(mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, 16S rRNA,nuclear 28S rRNA, Histone 3), including 28 additional speciesof Elysia from the Atlantic, showed that they are distinct. In addition, to determine the identity of these specimens, different species delimitation analyses [Automatic BarcodeGap Discovery (ABGD), General Mixed Yule Coalescent(GMYC), Bayesian Poisson Tree Processes, (bPTP)] werecarried out. The molecular results support the validity of thisnew species of Elysia from the Mediterranean Sea, namedElysia rubeni sp. nov. This new species is characterized by abright light greenish surface color due to the abundance ofkleptoplasts. It can be distinguished by its bright blue specksand minute sparkling yellow dots scattered along the body, aswell as its smooth and greyish rhinophores.
